Path to the Past 중 바이샤엔과 대화-Tell me about yourself
바이샤엔의 가족 이야기
[12:32 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Unless...there is something else you wish to discuss? [12:32 a.m.]Bajsaljen: I was born in Bozja, though I have never known a life free from the Empire's rule. [12:32 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Following in my late father's footsteps, I studied to become a doctor. Much to my surprise, and dismay, my academic accomplishments did not go unnoticed. I was taken to the capital, where I received a formal education in medicinal sciences. Deployment as a medic in their military soon followed. [12:32 a.m.]Bajsaljen: My service was ultimately rewarded with citizenship, after which I met my wife, and we started a family together. If their goal was for me to grow content and complacent, it failed, for not a day went by that I did not think about the liberation of my homeland.
[12:32 a.m.]Bajsaljen: But I would need to bide my time a while longer, for I was assigned to the IVth Imperial Legion. There was an uprising in Nagxia, and it fell to us to quell their insurrection. It was not until after our mission was complete that I learned of what happened to Bozja. To my family... [12:32 a.m.]Bajsaljen: We returned as fast as we were able, but there was nothing left of the citadel.
[12:32 a.m.]Bajsaljen: I was ordered to return to the capital, but I had to find my wife and children. I covered every ilm of that barren wasteland...and nothing. [12:32 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Chains and a prison cell greeted me back in Garlemald, but in spite of my confinement, whispers of what happened in Bozja eventually reached me. Of their failed experiments to control Dalamud. [12:32 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Stripped of my citizenship, I expected to remain under lock and key until the end of my days. Fortunately for me, they had need of more medics for their next campaign. [12:32 a.m.]Bajsaljen: But I would never reach the battlefield, for I escaped with a number of other soldiers to join the Resistance. [12:33 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Many years of service to the Resistance then molded me into the man who now stands before you. And I will continue to serve for as long as it takes to see our homeland safe from the Empire.
Tell me about Bozja and the Resistance.
[12:35 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Unless...there is something else you wish to discuss?
[12:35 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Our home rests in the southern reaches of Ilsabard, to the west of Dalmasca.
[12:35 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Our earliest records─or at least those we have been able to recover─suggest Bozja was founded at some point during the Third Astral Era. The Allagan Empire had reached the height of its power, and several tribes of the Hrothgar came here seeking refuge from their supremacy.
[12:36 a.m.]Bajsaljen: It was Queen Gunnhildr who would keep the Allagans at bay. Her radiance would light our path to prosperity, and by her grace was the nation of Bozja founded. [12:36 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Alas, the Fourth Umbral Calamity would see the end of her kingdom. But those who survived slowly rebuilt, and Bozja was reborn as a city-state that would coexist with neighboring nations for centuries to come.
[12:36 a.m.]Bajsaljen: The Garlean Empire's rise to power changed everything. None could oppose the sheer strength and versatility of their military. [12:36 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Their campaign began some fifty years ago, and now an entire generation of our people has been raised knowing only oppression. But now they would know freedom.
[12:36 a.m.]Bajsaljen: When word reached us that Ala Mhigo and Doma had risen up to defy the Empire, we seized the opportunity to flee and form pockets of resistance. [12:36 a.m.]Bajsaljen: With Lord Hien's assistance, the several groups that had formed were merged into a single, cohesive force, and I was chosen as its leader.
[12:36 a.m.]Bajsaljen: If the IVth Imperial Legion is able to consolidate its forces in Bozja, however, our efforts will be for naught. We have to strike back, and soon.
Tell me about the Gangos.
[12:36 a.m.]Bajsaljen: For the present, this is our base of operations, to the southeast of what remains of Bozja Citadel. When the fighting begins, we will hold the line here. [12:36 a.m.]Bajsaljen: For a blessing, the surrounding wetlands and the fog that persists year-round have served to conceal our operation. That is not to say, of course, we have not taken additional measures to remain hidden.
[12:36 a.m.]Bajsaljen: In the unlikely event that their scouts should approach the perimeter, our mages have cast a cloaking spell around the area to keep us from sight. [12:36 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Havens such as this are plentiful along the southern coast of Ilsabard. Our facilities are rather modest, I confess, but I would like to think we have made great strides in providing for our soldiers here.
[12:36 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Thanks to the generosity of our allies here in the East, as well as the Eorzean Alliance, we do not want for provisions or arms. All that remains is to secure the blades of Gunnhildr.
Tell me about the Bozja incident.
[12:37 a.m.]Bajsaljen: It was roughly twenty years ago, if I'm not mistaken. The Empire, fearful of the threat posed by primals and the tribes who summoned them, devised a plan to wipe them out. [12:37 a.m.]Bajsaljen: The Meteor project. Through the use of magitek, they intended to recreate ancient sorcery capable of calling down meteors.
[12:37 a.m.]Bajsaljen: At the helm of the project was their chief engineer, Midas nan Garlond. In time, every last one of their research facilities was involved in its development. [12:37 a.m.]Bajsaljen: The project would take a perilous turn when it was discovered that the lesser moon Dalamud was, in fact, a satellite of Allagan design. They were determined to make it part of their plans.
[12:37 a.m.]Bajsaljen: And so they erected a colossal transmission tower, designed to control Dalamud. Its first test would also prove to be its last... [12:37 a.m.]Bajsaljen: For lack of eyewitnesses, what happened next is difficult to describe. It is often described as an explosion, but the ruins showed no signs of gunpowder or magic. We only know that a terrible light shone from the heavens that night.
[12:37 a.m.]Bajsaljen: In an instant, the citadel was gone. Its citizens and soldiers...my family...
[12:37 a.m.]Bajsaljen: No one is certain why Dalamud responded with such destructive force, but all work on the Meteor project was halted immediately.
[12:37 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Five years later, however, Nael van Darnus set the wheels of the project back into motion. His devotion was rewarded with the coming of the Seventh Umbral Calamity.
[12:38 a.m.]Bajsaljen: The world has already paid too great a cost for the Garleans' ambition... They must be stopped.
Path to the Past - Marsak
Tell me about yourself.
[12:38 a.m.]Marsak: I serve primarily as liaison 'twixt the Bozjan Resistance and our allies. I'll not deny there is still much for me to learn, but I will do everything within my power to see Bozja free of the Empire. If that should mean my life, then so be it.
[12:38 a.m.]Marsak: You...wish to know of my past? It is no different than most, I would imagine─conscription by the Empire, which is the only reason I was not present in the citadel to die alongside my kin in the Bozja incident.
[12:39 a.m.]Marsak: Some would call it a massacre planned by the Empire, but I am not ready to believe they would willingly kill so many of their own soldiers and engineers.
[12:39 a.m.]Marsak: Having been raised under the Garlean doctrine, I realize that not all of them are the bloodthirsty monsters many of us would paint them to be. Though the Empire would seek to oppress us, I do not share the same animosity towards its citizens as my Resistance comrades.
[12:39 a.m.]Marsak: But these are musings better left between the two of us, yes? I would not have the others think me a coward or a traitor to our cause.
Path to the Past - Misija
Tell me about the Queen Gunnhildr.
[12:40 a.m.]Misija: During the Third Astral Era, Queen Gunnhildr united the fragmented tribes of the Hrothgar to rise up and drove off the Allagans, eventually going on to found the nation of Bozja.
[12:40 a.m.]Misija: It should be noted that Gunnhildr was not her name, but rather a title bestowed to the current monarch of any given age. The common thread connecting all rulers of Bozja is their ability to read the stars. There were others who shared in this ability, but they were said to be the greatest seers of their respective ages.
[12:40 a.m.]Misija: They were also said to be great warriors. When doing battle with the Allagans or any other would-be invaders, the queen could always be found commanding from the front lines. [12:40 a.m.]Misija: Alas, Bozja would fall in the wake of the Fourth Umbral Calamity. By some miracle, some few survived and were able to build what we knew as the city-state of Bozja.
Tell me about Gunnhildr's Blades.
[12:40 a.m.]Misija: They were the elite guard of the queen, masters of myriad arms and magicks, said to be the greatest warriors of their age. [12:40 a.m.]Misija: Their combat prowess was matched only by their devotion to Queen Gunnhildr. They would not hesitate to give their lives in her service. And, should one of these warriors fall in battle, their holy blade would be passed on to a suitable successor.
[12:40 a.m.]Misija: Over time, their title as Gunnhildr's Blades would become synonymous with the gunblade, which gained great renown during the war against the Allagans. [12:40 a.m.]Misija: There is not a Bozjan alive who does not know the tales of their heroism. I have no doubt reforging these weapons will lend us both the strength and resolve we need to succeed.
Tell me about the weapons you plan to forge.
[12:40 a.m.]Misija: With Master Gerolt's help, we have nearly all that is required to reforge the weapons of Queen Gunnhildr's guard. [12:41 a.m.]Misija: While it is true the legends of their might are duly inspiring, to simply call them the blades of Gunnhildr would do little to differentiate these new armaments from the weapons of eld. After all, we do not wish to give the impression that the originals have been recovered.
[12:41 a.m.]Misija: After much thought, Master Gerolt offered a simple and surprisingly satisfactory suggestion of “Resistance weapons.” [12:41 a.m.]Misija: He also went on to make a rather curious remark about the steps to be taken in their forging: that these weapons can be enhanced further in accordance with the enemies one faces.
[12:41 a.m.]Misija: By the sounds of it, these weapons are never truly complete until their purpose is fulfilled.
Tell me about yourself.
[12:41 a.m.]Misija: It has been two years since I joined the Resistance. Before then I lived as all Bozjans did─under the harsh rule of the Empire. [12:41 a.m.]Misija: It is the only life I have ever known, though my parents often spoke to me of what they remembered from the days of Bozja's independence. [12:41 a.m.]Misija: Though it was under the auspices of our Garlean oppressors, I was educated in prehistoric archaeology.
[12:41 a.m.]Misija: While I am thankful for the opportunities it afforded me, I could not turn a blind eye to the suffering of my people. And so I left to join the Resistance. [12:41 a.m.]Misija: It was I who proposed to reforge the fabled weapons of Queen Gunnhildr's guard, and Bajsaljen has chosen to place his faith in my plan. I take heart in knowing all I learned from the Empire will be put to good use.
Mikoto
Tell me about the seers.
[12:42 a.m.]Mikoto: Scant though they are, the records we have uncovered thus far suggest the practices of seers date back as far as the Fourth Astral Era. [12:42 a.m.]Mikoto: The region was plagued with all manner of natural disasters in those days, inciting great unrest not only amongst the Bozjans, but neighboring nations as well.
[12:42 a.m.]Mikoto: It was during these tumultuous times seers first appeared. In fact, I have reason to believe they possessed the Echo. [12:42 a.m.]Mikoto: Using a crystal focus, they were able to delve into the minds of the downcast and the heartsick, seeking out their darkest memories and altering them to ease the peoples' burdens. [12:42 a.m.]Mikoto: Perhaps they saw the altering of minds as a necessity for their survival, but we must consider the ethical implications of such methods in this day and age. I have no doubt my betters in Sharlayan would consider it to be reprehensible.
Tell me about the crystal focus.
[12:42 a.m.]Mikoto: My initial analysis of the crystals suggests they are man-made. Nothing in my data can prove the materials are unique to this region, which leads me to believe the Bozjans─or rather, the seers─created them. [12:42 a.m.]Mikoto: However, given the intricate lattices found in these crystals, it seems highly improbable that the Bozjans could have produced them, considering the methods available to them in the Fourth Astral Era. [12:42 a.m.]Mikoto: In fact, on closer inspection, it became clear that its structure is quite similar to that found in Allagan constructs. [12:42 a.m.]Mikoto: Which then begs the question: who were the seers, and whence did they come? This is but a working theory, but I suspect their roots can be traced back to the Allagans themselves─perhaps survivors of the Fourth Umbral Calamity who wished to atone for the sins of their forebears. [12:42 a.m.]Mikoto: They came to these lands seeking a means to help the Bozjans, and in doing so created these crystal foci. [12:42 a.m.]Mikoto: ...Ahem. As I said, 'tis but a working theory. Though I understand if it sounds more like a flight of fancy.
Tell me about memory exploration.
Tell me about your gift.
[12:43 a.m.]Mikoto: The Echo can manifest itself in myriad ways dependent on the individual. I was gifted with the ability to peer into the future. [12:43 a.m.]Mikoto: It is a power much like prophetic dreams and divinations, and yet quite different, for such visions only tell of the future's potential.
[12:43 a.m.]Mikoto: The Echo does not show me what may happen, but what will happen.
[12:43 a.m.]Mikoto: Scholars speculate Mezaya Thousand Eyes too shared this gift, hence the alarming accuracy of the passages writ in her Divine Chronicles. [12:43 a.m.]Mikoto: These visions are a decidedly rare occurrence, usually containing some crucial insight into matters presently unfolding before me. For better or worse, I have never had visions of an impending threat on my life or those around me.
[12:43 a.m.]Mikoto: Not that I would want to see such things, of course. Could you imagine, knowing of certain doom that cannot be avoided?
[12:43 a.m.]Mikoto: I once spoke of my visions to an acquaintance─a relatively harmless glimpse of the future─and it resulted in a terrible argument. I fear I could not bear the weight of grimmer tidings...
[12:44 a.m.]Mikoto: But that is neither here nor there. My gift is but a trivial thing. Nothing you should think to rely upon.
Tell me about yourself.
[12:44 a.m.]Mikoto: About me!? Oh, there really isn't much to tell, I assure you! [12:44 a.m.]Mikoto: Well, if you must know... Due to advanced placement I found myself attending the Studium much earlier than most. My research in the field of aetherology would eventually earn me the title of Archon. When I am not conducting research in the field, I conduct lectures at the Studium.
[12:44 a.m.]Mikoto: Moenbryda is, er...was...my mentor. I would not be the scholar I am today if not for her. I have fond memories of the many nights we toiled together working on her original plans for the aetheric siphon. She was like a sister to me. [12:44 a.m.]Mikoto: Speaking of which, I do have a sister, actually. An identical twin, in fact. Though we have not spoken since she too was named an Archon.
[12:44 a.m.]Mikoto: She was my better in all aspects of academia, but she often disagreed with the views of the Forum. I can but assume that is why she took her leave of the Studium. [12:44 a.m.]Mikoto: She was always so strong-willed and quite critical of those around her. Sadly, we never got along very well growing up. I often wonder if that is why Moenbryda was so quick to take me under her wing.
[12:44 a.m.]Mikoto: I still see her, in my dreams. Always offering a warm smile and words of encouragement. [12:44 a.m.]Mikoto: If we were to use the crystal focus, perhaps there would be a way to speak with her again. A tempting prospect, but in the end, I know it would not truly be her...

[1:28 a.m.]Misija: I understand that you are no stranger to battle with the Empire. Having crossed blades with such a redoubtable foe before, I must ask─do you believe there is any chance of success for the Resistance? [1:28 a.m.]Misija: Now that the fighting has begun in earnest, I cannot help but wonder if our troops can endure the bloodshed required of them. They say they are prepared, willing to lay down their lives for Bozja. And yet...
[1:29 a.m.]Misija: Forgive me. Such dispirited thinking will accomplish nothing. [1:29 a.m.]Misija: Ahem. If there is nothing else you wish to discuss, I will leave you to your affairs.
[1:29 a.m.]Marsak: You have met the new Gunnhildr's Blades, yes? They are without question the finest of our soldiers, and under their leadership morale has never been higher. Victory is in reach, my friend. I can feel it. [1:29 a.m.]Marsak: But I digress. If there is naught else, I will leave you to your duties.

[1:29 a.m.]Bajsaljen: I am glad you could join us, Blade (이름), and not a moment too soon.
[1:29 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Allow me to introduce to you Gunnhildr's Blades!
[1:30 a.m.]Bajsaljen: High mage Xeven, master of flames. The fury of his art rivals even the fieriest hells. Isolde, the eagle eye. In brightest day or darkest night, no enemy will escape her sight. Stanik, the unwavering blade of Bozja. The foes dashed against his shield are beyond counting.
[1:30 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Velibor, the baleful blade. His unbridled fury can fell entire cadres with a single stroke. Aggie, the iron fist of Bozja. A young prodigy whose martial skills put even those most seasoned veterans to shame. Blaz, the merciful blade. No foe, however terrible, will dissuade his blade from finding its mark.
[1:30 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Rest assured, this is not the guard in its entirety. A number have already taken to the field and would benefit greatly from your presence, if you are willing.
[1:30 a.m.]Bajsaljen: With Gunnhildr's Blades and the Warrior of Light leading the charge, it is only a matter of time before Castrum Lacus Litore is ours. [1:30 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Speaking of which, I believe you have yet to see the castrum. If you'll follow me, I'll show you the object of our struggle here on the southern front.

[1:31 a.m.]Stanik: Hahaha, at last we meet, Blade 이름. Let us give the imperials a good thrashing, yes?
[1:31 a.m.]Aggie: An honor to meet you, miss. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be chosen for such a duty, but I won't let you down! Promise!
[1:31 a.m.]Blaz: Blade 이름. You honor us with your presence. Though my ancestors hail from Doma, Bozja is my home. With you at our side, I am confident we will see it free.
[1:31 a.m.]Velibor: It is good to have you with us, Blade 이름. A warrior after my own heart, if the tales of your renown are true. When the fighting starts, I will be sure not to get in your way. I trust you will show me the same courtesy?
[1:31 a.m.]Xeven: Blade 이름. It is an honor and privilege to make your acquaintance. I very much look forward to fighting at your side in the days to come.
[1:31 a.m.]Isolde: Pleased to meet you, Blade 이름. When the battle is joined, rest assured Gunnhildr's Blades will be at your back.
(바이샤엔과 대화)
[1:32 a.m.]Bajsaljen: There it is. Castrum Lacus Litore, to use the Garlean moniker. [1:33 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Its true name is Alermuc, which means “eagle” in Bozjan, as they too once made their home in these mountains. To our people they are a symbol of strength and good fortune, both of which were sorely needed when the Empire first invaded.
[1:33 a.m.]Bajsaljen: But we needn't dwell on past failings. Now we have a chance to reclaim what is rightfully ours. To remind the people what it is we stand to gain, I have chosen to call this initiative “Operation Eagle's Nest.” [1:33 a.m.]Bajsaljen: Like the great eagle we must strike hard and swift. And with you at our side, I have no doubt we shall see this through to a glorious end.
[1:33 a.m.]Bajsaljen: But before you rush into battle, I believe Mikoto wished to discuss the crystal focus with you. Good tidings, perhaps?
(미코토와 대화)
[1:34 a.m.]Mikoto: I have rather exciting news to share. As you may recall, the energies of the crystal focus were spent on our exploration of Cid's memories. [1:34 a.m.]Mikoto: After careful analysis, we have concluded that it can, in fact, absorb aether in a similar fashion to the auracite we discovered in Ivalice. [1:34 a.m.]Mikoto: This assumes, of course, we have a suitable source of energy matching its aetherial frequency.
[1:34 a.m.]Misija: And therein lies the problem. Crystals bearing such a specific aetherial signature are quite rare. We could never hope to amass the quantities needed. [1:34 a.m.]Misija: Were we to locate an aether current of the correct frequency, however, charging the focus would be a matter of course. Unfortunately, such currents exist only in regions of Bozja rife with imperials.
[1:34 a.m.]Misija: Mikoto wished to wait until the fighting died down, but as I explained to her before, time is a luxury we can ill afford. [1:34 a.m.]Misija: I'm sure you understand better than anyone that the bloodshed will only cease when a victor is decided, the death toll climbing ever higher on both sides.
[1:34 a.m.]Misija: The horrors of this war weigh heavy on the hearts of our people. [1:34 a.m.]Misija: A burden which could be eased were we able to employ the crystal focus, healing wounds not of the flesh, but of the mind. [1:34 a.m.]Misija: Plans to locate an aether current are well underway, but I suspect your help would see them expedited. Might we ask for your assistance in this endeavor?
[1:34 a.m.]Mikoto: Pressed for time as we are, Cid has already begun work on a monitoring device to locate a sufficient source of aether. [1:34 a.m.]Mikoto: I would join him and see to the final preparations. In the meantime, I would ask the two of you to investigate a location I believe to be near an aether current.
[1:34 a.m.]Marsak: Sorry for interrupting, but a few of our soldiers wished to have a quick word before you depart. I expect their intelligence will prove useful when you're in the field.

[4:35 p.m.]Mikoto: Apologies for the delay, but as you can see, the aether-monitoring devices have finally arrived. [4:36 p.m.]Lilja: Oh my, 이름! Suddenly, I'm glad the chief insisted I make the delivery.
[4:36 p.m.]Lilja: I believe you and Miss Mikoto ordered these? The spectrometer needs a touch more fine-tuning, but it should be ready in no time at all.
[4:36 p.m.]Mikoto: The sensors are to be placed at key locations close to the largest aether currents in the region. Once Lilja has finished making the final adjustments to the spectrometer, we can activate them remotely and isolate the aetherial signature we are looking for.
[4:36 p.m.]Misija: It may seem somewhat far-fetched, but the theory is sound. Think of the aether currents as streams flowing underground which, at certain locations, converge into larger rivers. The streams can prove quite difficult to trace. The rivers, less so. [4:36 p.m.]Misija: As you might imagine, because these rivers are a confluence of myriad streams, it is no simple task to filter out and extract aether of a specific frequency.
[4:36 p.m.]Misija: Which is why before anything can be done, we first need a thorough analysis of the aether flowing through these larger currents. [4:36 p.m.]Misija: Once the signature we're after has been isolated, we can then trace it back to its source.
[4:36 p.m.]Misija: One current flows here under this very camp. After setting sensors at two additional sites, we should be able to gather enough data to isolate the desired signature. [4:36 p.m.]Misija: Once traced back to its source, we should find something of a reservoir. Hopefully with suitable stores of aether to charge the crystal focus.
[4:36 p.m.]Mikoto: Unfortunately, the two remaining sites where we intend to place sensors are presently points of conflict with the Empire.
[4:36 p.m.]Mikoto: Might we ask that you go and set them?
[4:37 p.m.]Misija: I'll mark the locations on your map. [4:37 p.m.]Misija: Once the sensors are in place, use this linkpearl to contact us. [4:37 p.m.]Mikoto: I know this all sounds rather hazardous, but if anyone can make a success of this plan, it's you!

[4:45 p.m.]Mikoto: We've confirmed activity on our end. The sensor has burrowed into the ground, yes? [4:45 p.m.]Mikoto: Excellent. The rest we can handle from here. Return to base, and be careful.

[4:46 p.m.]Mikoto: Welcome back, 이름. With the first sensor in place, Misija can begin... Wait, where did she...?
[4:46 p.m.]Cynical Soldier: ...And why is it that you get to stay here, safe and sound, while the rest of us throw our lives away out there? [4:46 p.m.]Exasperated Soldier: Oh, how she must have begged and pleaded for the commander to let her stay. “Please, Commander Bajsaljen, don't make me go. I'll do anything to remain here at camp!” Pathetic...
[4:46 p.m.]Belligerent Soldier: Though I suppose you've never been one above begging, have you? [4:46 p.m.]Misija: We'll see who's begging when I gut you like a fish. [4:46 p.m.]Marsak: That's enough! All of you!
[4:47 p.m.]Marsak: Our fight is with the Empire, not our brothers- and sisters-in-arms. [4:47 p.m.]Marsak: Should I hear so much as a whisper of such demeaning remarks again, you will find judgment not before a court-martial, but here before my blade's edge. Am I understood?
[4:47 p.m.]Marsak: Misija! [4:47 p.m.]Marsak: Let me speak with them. I'm certain they did not mean to make such crass remarks. [4:47 p.m.]Misija: So you would defend them, then? [4:47 p.m.]Marsak: Not as such, but you know how soldiers can be, especially those of supposedly gentle blood. They probably think of it as idle banter, is all.
[4:47 p.m.]Misija: You and I are from different worlds, Marsak.
[4:47 p.m.]Marsak: Overhear them, did you? <sigh> What an embarrassment. [4:48 p.m.]Marsak: Those buffoons are an unfortunate reminder of our past. You see, Bozja rose above its humble beginnings to become a prosperous nation, due in no small part to contributions of the nobility. To outsiders, it exemplified the qualities of an ideal republic. Appearances can be deceiving, however...
[4:48 p.m.]Marsak: The disparity between nobles and commoners proved a chasm that could never be filled. Even under imperial rule, vestiges of that great divide would remain. [4:48 p.m.]Marsak: I wished to believe everyone shared my vision of a unified Bozja, where all are equal in dignity and rights. But there are those who long for the status and privilege of that supposed golden era, when wealth and power were one and the same.
[4:48 p.m.]Marsak: And for every one of the “haves,” there were a thousand “have-nots.” Misija's family was of the latter. As a child, she walked for hours each day to and from school in the hope of a better life. The imperials recognized her dedication, and saw fit to educate her.
[4:48 p.m.]Marsak: Her talent has earned her no small amount of envy from her peers. Nevertheless, she is a faultless example of what a good soldier should be. That anyone would take her being lowborn as justification for ridicule is absurd. I will not stand for it.
[4:48 p.m.]Marsak: Might I ask that you keep this between us? While I am loath to sweep such matters under the rug, to address them here and now could very well undermine all we have fought so hard to achieve.

[4:50 p.m.]Misija: I should also mention this site is host to ancient Bozjan ruins. Our data suggests they date back to the Third Astral Era, but I cannot say for certain. What I can say is the undead are known to roam the lands there at night, so stay on your guard.

Even with just the troops stationed here at the castrum, they wouldn't stand a chance!
[7:31 p.m.]Albeleo: You have already demonstrated gross insubordination by leading charges into the field against orders. Soldiers have been court-martialed for far less, and such behavior ill befits one of your station.
[7:31 p.m.]Albeleo: I need not remind you that our true objective is the subjugation of Dalmasca and the seizure of its resources, not to engage in petty skirmishes with these Bozjan curs. [7:31 p.m.]Albeleo: They will be dealt with in due course, but only once the Dalmascan resistance has been annihilated.
[7:31 p.m.]Lyon rem Helsos: Who do you think you're talking to, boy? I know full well that we need to bring Dalmasca to heel, and I've said from the beginning that invading Bozja was a waste of time. I hope you have not forgotten the soldiers you sacrificed for the sake of this “waste of time.”
[7:31 p.m.]Albeleo: Retaining our foothold here is essential to our plans. Now that Doma and Ala Mhigo have reclaimed their independence, the Bozjans have been inspired to follow suit. Should they succeed, the Dalmascans will be next. We cannot hope to withstand a united resistance from all sides.
[7:31 p.m.]Menenius sas Lanatus: Don't waste your breath, Albeleo. The only thing this rabid dog understands is bloodshed. [7:31 p.m.]Lyon rem Helsos: Watch your tongue, or it's your blood that'll be shed next.

[7:49 p.m.]Misija: I don't think you understand your situation here. Or are you truly that naive? [7:49 p.m.]Mikoto: Is it for power? Renown? Have you always been on their side? [7:49 p.m.]Mikoto: I know you, Misija. You're a woman of conviction, and you wouldn't do something like this without good reason.
[7:49 p.m.]Misija: If you know me as well as you say, I would hazard you already have the answer. [7:49 p.m.]Mikoto: ...You would truly place your faith in Noah van Gabranth?
[7:49 p.m.]Mikoto: I've read about him and his father, the famed knights from the Republic of Landis. They say he was a man of vision. [7:49 p.m.]Mikoto: He was made legatus of the IVth Imperial Legion, and from what intelligence I could gather, he pays no heed to the race, parentage, or creed of his followers.
[7:49 p.m.]Mikoto: And that same impartial judgment extends to the provinces under his control, if I am not mistaken. Havens for those seeking a life free of prejudice and hate. [7:49 p.m.]Mikoto: But do you truly believe equality can be found under an imperial standard?
[7:49 p.m.]Misija: My, my. The dutiful bookworm can read between the lines. Perhaps I gave you too little credit. [7:49 p.m.]Mikoto: I can but posit theories and conjecture, for I will never truly know of the indignity your family suffered. Nor can I speak on the alarming disparity between the nobles and commoners, even before Bozja succumbed to imperial rule.
[7:50 p.m.]Mikoto: As I understand, it was a country where the needs of the few outweighed those of the many. The wealthy were free to forge their own futures, while the poor were free only to die should they fail in their daily struggle to survive.
[7:50 p.m.]Mikoto: And even if some few nobles were opposed to the nation being governed by an oligarchy, their peers would never relinquish their power and wealth for the greater good.
[7:50 p.m.]Mikoto: While that Bozja is no more, I realize there are those among the Resistance who yearn for the halcyon days of their forebears, who would judge you based on your lineage rather than the content of your character.
[7:50 p.m.]Mikoto: Their voices are but echoes of a reprehensible past. You should understand better than anyone the future Bajsaljen and Marsak mean to build, a way forward paved with dignity and equality. Times change, Misija. People change.
[7:50 p.m.]Misija: No, people don't change. They only fool themselves into believing they can. [7:50 p.m.]Misija: I was ridiculed, marginalized, treated like an “other.” By the mere virtue of being highborn theirs was the righteous path, mine the immoral.
[7:50 p.m.]Misija: Bajsaljen and Marsak claim they want to put an end to the discrimination, but there is no escaping their true nature.
[7:50 p.m.]Misija: Their hatred must be driven out with force.
[7:50 p.m.]Mikoto: Would putting your faith in them be such a terrible thing? [7:50 p.m.]Misija: Oh, if you knew the depths of their malice. Their treachery.
[7:51 p.m.]Misija: Perhaps I should tell you the tragedy of Queen Gunnhildr, and the great betrayal of her followers. [7:51 p.m.]Misija: I'm sure you've heard the legends of Save the Queen.
[7:51 p.m.]Mikoto: The blessed blade that could only be wielded by Queen Gunnhildr. Yes, I've heard the tales. [7:51 p.m.]Mikoto: When her kingdom came under attack during the Fourth Umbral Calamity, she brought the full might of the blade to bear to save her people, and in so doing, gave her own life.
[7:51 p.m.]Mikoto: A bittersweet end to her reign, but I fail to see what that has to do with anything.
[7:51 p.m.]Misija: Before the Fourth Umbral Calamity, Gunnhildr's Blades foresaw their coming doom. As the kingdom's acting political body, they saw it as their duty to save their people at any cost, and so devised a plan to save Bozja using the power of the holy blade.
[7:51 p.m.]Misija: The queen's body would serve as a conduit for the blade's power, allowing them to summon a god. [7:51 p.m.]Mikoto: No... You don't mean...? [7:51 p.m.]Misija: A primal summoning, yes. Though perhaps it would be more fitting to call it an eikon. The blade was, after all, originally a relic stolen from the Allagans.
[7:51 p.m.]Mikoto: An eikon...heavens forfend. [7:51 p.m.]Misija: There was one problem, however. The queen knew that, once she took in the power of this god, there would be no turning back. She was a coward, and despite her duty to protect the people, she chose her own life over theirs.
[7:52 p.m.]Misija: Yet Gunnhildr's Blades would not see their efforts come to naught. For they soon realized the sacrifice need not be the presently reigning queen. Nor did they need to be of noble blood.
[7:52 p.m.]Misija: And so a lowborn shrine maiden was chosen to ascend the throne. Obedient to a fault, she did not hesitate to give her life to forestall the coming Calamity. [7:52 p.m.]Misija: Would that this tragic tale end there, but I'm afraid it takes a rather bloody turn.
[7:52 p.m.]Misija: You see, despite sacrificing herself to save Bozja, the new queen did not die, nor was she consumed by the eikon's power. [7:52 p.m.]Mikoto: There was a woman of Ishgard, Ysayle, capable of such a feat. But to embrace the power of the eikon and retain her sense of self...that would mean this queen possessed the Echo.
[7:53 p.m.]Misija: And her power struck fear into the hearts of Gunnhildr's Blades, for a god now walked among them. [7:53 p.m.]Misija: But rather than the puppet the Blades had wished for, she was pure and free, and for that, she was slain.
[7:53 p.m.]Misija: The Blades would not─could not─risk her discovering the truth of her ascension. That she was but a sacrificial lamb to save their highborn brethren. [7:53 p.m.]Misija: They claimed the queen had gone mad, drunk with the god's power, leaving them no choice but to slay her. She was then buried, along with the blade, and the truth.
[7:53 p.m.]Mikoto: Where did you hear this?
[7:53 p.m.]Misija: Let's just say it's a bit of family history. [7:53 p.m.]Misija: Now, answer my question─how are you able to see the future? [7:53 p.m.]Mikoto: I... I don't know. I've never been able to use it of my own volition.
[7:53 p.m.]Misija: I suppose it doesn't matter. We'll drag it out of you soon enough.

[10:22 p.m.]Bwagi: Nothing is ever simple with you, is it? I only came here to deliver a message from Lady Fran. [10:22 p.m.]Bwagi: Well, I don't understand what's going on here, but I don't intend on staying long enough after my work is through.
[10:22 p.m.]Bwagi: Though I suppose I can take a moment to talk, if there's something you need to know.
Tell me about the situation in Dalmasca.
[10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: Dalmasca? That's precisely why I'm here. Lady Fran asked that I relay the news to Bajsaljen. What I have to say is meant only for his ears, but I suppose she wouldn't be cross if you were to hear as well.
[10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: The resistance forces in Dalmasca and Nagxia have been planning assaults of their own to coincide with the Bozjan's strike on the castrum here. [10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: In Dalmasca their target was Castrum Amicitia, known to most as the nigh-impenetrable Nalbina Fortress. Their losses were great, but in the end their efforts were rewarded with victory.
[10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: In Nagxia they succeeded in taking a port to cut off their supply chain. The IVth Legion was surprisingly quick to turn tail from what I've been told. [10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: The forces in both Dalmasca and Nagxia are overjoyed by their success, but Lady Fran suspects something is amiss. She believes victory should not have been so easily won against the IVth Legion.
[10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: To that end, we have begun tracking their activity more closely. And considering the state of affairs in the Empire, we found it curious there has been little to or from their base of operations in Valnain. [10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: After the death of Lord Varis, it would be an understatement to say the Empire fell into disarray. It's a war of factions in the truest sense of the word.
[10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: According to our intelligence, the IVth Legion has been ordered to return to the imperial capital, but Gabranth has refused. He's since proclaimed that Dalmasca will be the site of a new nation he intends to build. [10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: Sounds to me like if he means to continue his fight for Bozja, the IVth Legion will be doing it alone.
[10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: There may never be a more prime opportunity than now to defeat them. There's a growing call to strike, and I'm inclined to agree that we should. But Lady Fran insisted we wait until we better understood the IVth Legion's goal. [10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: She had hoped the Bozjan's conflict with Gabranth's forces might shed some light on their motives, and it seems her suspicions were well founded.
[10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: Even so, that apparition, whatever it was, is certainly more than we were expecting. I hate to think what else he might have planned.
Tell me about yourself.
[10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: Me? What's there to tell? A former fusilier to the royal family working with the Resistance against our common enemy─the IVth Legion. [10:23 p.m.]Bwagi: For now, I serve as liaison for Lady Fran. I can already tell there will be much to speak of when I return to Dalmasca.
[10:24 p.m.]Lilja: Thank goodness Mikoto was okay. No time to relax, though. Not as long as the IVth Legion is still out there up to no good. [10:24 p.m.]Lilja: Anything you need before I get back to work?
[10:24 p.m.]Mikoto: Misija always seemed so kind, and caring. Why did it have to come to this? [10:24 p.m.]Mikoto: I would like to believe the Empire has deceived her somehow but... I know it's not that simple. We have to stop her, 이름.
[10:24 p.m.]Mikoto: ...Did you wish to talk? If not, I wish to be alone with my thoughts, if only for a short while.
Tell me about Save the Queen.
[10:24 p.m.]Mikoto: Legend has it that, when the Fourth Umbral Calamity threatened to destroy all of Bozja, Queen Gunnhildr used the power of her holy blade, Save the Queen, to save her people. [10:24 p.m.]Mikoto: Misija called it a primal summoning, claiming the queen was able to control its power much like Lady Ysayle harnessed the power of Shiva.
[10:24 p.m.]Mikoto: The apparition we saw in the memory assumed the form of what I presume was Queen Gunnhildr, the entity Misija summoned adopting the same appearance. [10:24 p.m.]Mikoto: As to why it would take such a form, I believe it is linked to the nature of Queen Gunnhildr's death at the hands of her guard.
[10:24 p.m.]Mikoto: This is but a theory, mind you, but if the residual aether of her memories was absorbed by the blade, it stands to reason Save the Queen could gain some semblance of sentience. [10:24 p.m.]Mikoto: Curious that Misija was somehow able to control it. I can only assume this was made possible through our shared use of the crystal focus.
[10:24 p.m.]Mikoto: But theories will do little to help us defeat this new threat. A great deal more research must be done if we are to understand and overcome the IVth Legion's schemes.
Tell me about tempering.
[10:25 p.m.]Mikoto: I believe the term was coined after confrontations with the primal Ifrit. The creature would bombard its enemies with a veritable deluge of aether, rendering them mindless slaves. [10:25 p.m.]Mikoto: Though perhaps it would be more accurate to say their will is supplanted by that of the primal. They will act instinctively according to its whims and desires, no matter how depraved or immoral.
[10:25 p.m.]Mikoto: The effect was believed to be irreversible, but the Scions are said to have discovered a cure. I imagine it will not be long before the method of treatment is shared with the Resistance. [10:25 p.m.]Mikoto: Thankfully we are gifted with the Echo, otherwise the queen would likely bid us join the ranks of the afflicted.
[10:25 p.m.]Mikoto: But you are no stranger to battle with primals. I have faith you will find a way to defeat her.
[10:25 p.m.]Bajsaljen: Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Queen Gunnhildr herself could be turned against us, her blades enslaved by way of foul magicks. [10:25 p.m.]Bajsaljen: Now that I think of it, reforging the blades of Gunnhildr was originally proposed by Misija, as was the exploration of memories. Could this have been her aim all along?
[10:25 p.m.]Bajsaljen: If you've nothing else to discuss, I would give this new turn of events some thought.
Tell me about the new Gunnhildr's Blades.
[10:25 p.m.]Bajsaljen: As you know, Queen Gunnhildr was protected by an elite guard known as Gunnhildr's Blades. Their title would one day lend itself to the most renowned of their weaponry─the gunblade, but each of her guard was said to have mastered a unique weapon.
[10:25 p.m.]Bajsaljen: These blades were said to be blessed by the gods, and in the unlikely event one of the queen's guard should fall in battle, their weapon was passed on to a suitable successor. [10:25 p.m.]Bajsaljen: When Lord Hien suggested we find a symbol our people might rally behind, we were admittedly at a loss. For lack of a living figurehead, we looked to the past, and there we found our answer─the blades of Gunnhildr.
[10:26 p.m.]Bajsaljen: It was a simple solution, in principle, but without your help, and that of Mikoto and Master Gerolt, we never could have succeeded. I believe I speak for all of us when I say we are eternally grateful for what you have done.
[10:26 p.m.]Bajsaljen: With the weapons of Queen Gunnhildr forged anew, we then bestowed them upon our finest soldiers. Indeed, the illustrious Gunnhildr's Blades have been reborn. [10:26 p.m.]Bajsaljen: They have each been assigned to the head of a unit, and soldier morale has never been higher. It is exactly as Lord Hien predicted.
[10:26 p.m.]Bajsaljen: Of course, they have also found a source of inspiration in you, Blade 이름. Though our martial prowess is not a match for yours, what we lack in strength, we make up for with courage. Even if it should cost our lives, Bozja will be free.
Marsak와 대화
10:26 p.m.]Marsak: To lose the castrum and Gunnhildr's Blades both... A heavy and most unexpected blow. [10:26 p.m.]Marsak: It seems that rather than rely on sheer numbers, Menenius had a far more devious scheme in mind all along. And we played right into his hands. [10:26 p.m.]Marsak: Thankfully, reinforcements from Dalmasca have recently arrived, and more from the Eastern alliance will soon join our ranks as well.
[10:26 p.m.]Marsak: Until then, there is naught to do but wait and plan our next move. Now is the time to rest, my friend. You have more than earned it.
Meanwhile, at Catrum Lacus Litore
[10:27 p.m.]Lyon rem Helsos: Well, well! Word around here is you summoned a primal, is that right? You certainly know how to make a good first impression, don't you lass? [10:27 p.m.]Lyon rem Helsos: I've seen similar from Albeleo and that auracite of his, but a primal summoning? That takes a great deal more aether, doesn't it? And I'd imagine even more to control it.
[10:27 p.m.]Menenius sas Lanatus: You have done well. Now, go. Tend to your wounds. [10:27 p.m.]Menenius sas Lanatus: That's an order. We have ample time before the Resistance returns, and when they do, I will have need of you again. Understood?
[10:27 p.m.]Misija: Yes, sir. [10:27 p.m.]Lyon rem Helsos: Poor thing. If only she could learn to let go, it would be better for everyone. Well, some more than others...
[10:27 p.m.]Menenius sas Lanatus: ...What do you want?

Marsak - A sign of What's to Come
[10:28 p.m.]Marsak: It pains me to say it, but we have reached a stalemate on the Bozjan southern front. The IVth Imperial Legion seems content to play the waiting game, perhaps to conserve their strength until reinforcements arrive. We must act before their ranks are replenished. [10:28 p.m.]Marsak: There is much we wish to discuss with you, though I daresay Bajsaljen could explain it better than I.
[10:28 p.m.]Bajsaljen: Allow me to cut straight to the heart of our troubles. [10:28 p.m.]Bajsaljen: Though we were forced to abandon the castrum, it was our hope that Misija's display of force there was no more than an act of desperation to buy them time. But since then, Queen Gunnhildr has been quick to join the fray each time we engage their forces, leaving us little choice but to retreat.
[10:28 p.m.]Bajsaljen: We have sustained heavy casualties. Many of those not slain outright have been made slaves to Misija's will.
[10:28 p.m.]Bajsaljen: I fear she could defeat our forces utterly if she so chose. Our Dalmascan allies, however, have information to the contrary. [10:29 p.m.]Bwagi: To put it plainly, we believe the IVth Imperial Legion has all but exhausted its resources.
[10:29 p.m.]Bwagi: In the wake of Emperor Varis's death, the war of succession has brought the whole of Garlemald to the brink of collapse. [10:29 p.m.]Bwagi: As for Gabranth, he has refused orders to return to the capital. Apparently, he harbors dreams of building some new nation on the ruins of Dalmasca.
[10:29 p.m.]Bajsaljen: Hmm... He may once have played the loyal servant to Solus, but there was no love lost between him and Varis. It seems his allegiance to Garlemald died with the Emperor. [10:29 p.m.]Bajsaljen: If what you say is true, cutting ties with Garlemald has deprived his forces of any troops or supplies they would otherwise have received.
[10:29 p.m.]Bwagi: Lord Hien was quick to reach the same conclusion and ordered an assault on the IVth Imperial Legion. [10:29 p.m.]Marsak: That would explain why reinforcements from Gabranth have yet to reach the Bozjan southern front. [10:29 p.m.]Bwagi: Exactly. Even as we speak, allies from both Dalmasca and Nagxia endeavor to halt their advance.
[10:29 p.m.]Mikoto: There may yet be hope, Marsak. I recently received word from the Scions that a cure for their affliction has been found. [10:29 p.m.]Mikoto: However, the procedure would require a great deal of preparation, and that is to say nothing of the difficulty in employing this treatment in combat. <sigh> If only I hadn't been captured by Misija... None of this would have happened.
[10:29 p.m.]Bajsaljen: The fault lies with me. I am the one who failed to see through her deceit. You are not to blame for any of this. [10:29 p.m.]Gerolt: Aye, no use moonin' about feelin' sorry for yerself. Next ye'll be sayin' we should've never reforged the blades of Gunnhildr.
[10:29 p.m.]Resistance Soldier: Commander! We've received word of another summoning! [10:29 p.m.]Bajsaljen: Mikoto, wait! Where are you going? [10:29 p.m.]Lilja: It must be the summonings─ But we can think about that later!
[10:29 p.m.]Lilja: Please, 이름! You've got to stop her!

[10:44 p.m.]Mikoto: Come, 이름. We must inform the others.

[10:47 p.m.]Marsak: Now that Blade 이름 has arrived, would you care to elucidate your findings, Mikoto?
[10:47 p.m.]Mikoto: To speak plainly, I believe the apparition summoned at Castrum Lacus Litore and again on the southern front is not what we would call an eikon or a primal. Not in the strictest sense of the term.
10:47 p.m.]Gerolt: The hells are ye talkin' about, lass? I've heard me fair share o' tales about primals, and what ye've all told me o' this Queen Gunnhildr fits the description to a bloody tittle. [10:47 p.m.]Marsak: According to our records, Queen Gunnhildr wielded the power of the blade not to summon a god, but to become one, that she could protect our people.
[10:47 p.m.]Lilja: So she made herself a vessel for its power, then? [10:47 p.m.]Mikoto: Misija claimed that after the Fourth Umbral Calamity was averted, the queen was able to return to her mortal form. [10:47 p.m.]Mikoto: Tales passed down through the ages state much the same. It appears Queen Gunnhildr was able to call upon its power at will.
[10:47 p.m.]Bajsaljen: Then that would mean that a living vessel is required to wield the blade's true power. But that does not explain why it instead manifested in the form of Queen Gunnhildr. [10:48 p.m.]Mikoto: Based on our experience in the castrum and what we observed on the southern front, I believe the blade was imbued with the queen's memories in the form of aether at the moment of her death, and that the crystal focus was used to draw them out.
[10:48 p.m.]Mikoto: Does that not sound familiar, 이름? Aether absorbed into a vessel, and thereafter used to call forth unspeakable monstrosities.
[10:48 p.m.]Mikoto: Precisely. It is a phenomenon quite similar to the auracite we discovered in Rabanastre.
[10:48 p.m.]Mikoto: As you may recall, Argath Thadalfus harbored a burning desire to rule, which was made manifest in the ruins of Lesalia. [10:48 p.m.]Bwagi: Aye, it was the same for my brother, Ba'Gamnan. His guilt over the deaths of the prince and princess served as a catalyst for his own grisly transformation.
[10:49 p.m.]Bajsaljen: ...I see. From what we have learned of the holy blade thus far, it has much in common with auracite. [10:49 p.m.]Mikoto: This is merely conjecture, but I suspect that Save the Queen was actually crafted from auracite, and altered to amplify the desires of whoever wields it.
[10:49 p.m.]Marsak: But who would be capable of such a feat? [10:49 p.m.]Mikoto: I cannot say with any certainty, but together with the crystal foci, it is reminiscent of ancient Allagan technology. How it found its way into the hands of Bozjans is anyone's guess. [10:49 p.m.]Gerolt: Now hold on a bleedin' minute. Let me see if I'm understandin' this right.
[10:49 p.m.]Gerolt: Yer sayin' that thing you saw in the castrum weren't no primal, but a mere sliver o' the queen's aether what was left over in the blade? [10:49 p.m.]Lilja: It seems like it. But on the other hand, Misija can keep conjuring it up as many times as she wants. [10:49 p.m.]Gerolt: Considerin' what it was designed for, that shade o' the queen is the least of our worries.
[10:49 p.m.]Mikoto: Indeed. Misija's ultimate goal is likely to become a vessel for the blade's power, much like the queen did to avert the Fourth Umbral Calamity.
[10:49 p.m.]Mikoto: With apt preparation, 이름 could likely vanquish this shade of Queen Gunnhildr.
[10:49 p.m.]Mikoto: But if Misija should succeed in bringing the full power of the blade to bear...
[10:49 p.m.]Lilja: Are you suggesting there's a chance she could lose? Impossible! Why, I can't even count the number of stories I've heard of 이름's god-slaying adventures. What's one more notch on her belt?
[10:49 p.m.]Mikoto: I would rather it not come to that... Thankfully, Misija has yet to find a store of crystals suitable for her plans.
[10:49 p.m.]Mikoto: And I doubt she will─for the time being, at least─if the blade was designed in like manner to the crystal foci. We must act now, while there is still time.
